Positive kiwifruit market

"Green kiwifruit sales are going well in Italy, while we will have to wait 3-4 weeks for the foreign market. Quantities are lower than in previous years, we are taking about 10% less than 2019. This could be why sales are going well, as far as it concerns us. Prices are good, in line with expectations thanks to the high quality of the product," reports Raffaele Bucella, sales manager for Italy at Granfrutta Zani.

Kiwifruits are keeping very well in units, also thanks to a dry matter content and firmness in line with the best years. Grades are not as good, however, which could penalize the market in the end. Granfrutta Zani sales abroad will instead start in early February.

"The Greek produce is increasingly present and, as prices are lower, it does better on the market. After all, us Italians transferred or suggested all of our knowledge as regards this crop to Greek operators, as well as the technology necessary. Of course they are now doing their work and taking advantage of their lower production costs."

Another positive aspect regards Dorì golden kiwifruits. "This year, we had double the quantities of last year, i.e. over 1700 tons. We sold them all without a problem and all the clients who made a purchase in 2019/20 did so this year as well. We are very pleased with how things are going. We are currently finishing the stocks, which have kept perfectly."
