Austrian fruit and vegetable retailer Frutura is converting the former Wick window factory in Vorchdorf (Styria) into a logistics hub that is to employ some 100 people towards the end of 2021, says managing director Katrin Hohensinner in an interview with OÖN. A "low double-digit million amount" is said to be invested: This is because the existing delivery warehouse in Sattledt is becoming too small and does not offer any possibilities for expansion.
In the past two years, Frutura has increased its sales of fruit and vegetables from 350 to almost 500 million Euros and the company handles 150,000 tons of goods annually, with about 800 employees. Hohensinner sees great potential in fruit and vegetable cultivation - for example in the Eferding Basin. That is why Frutura also wants to look for potential suppliers in Upper Austria whose production fits in with the company's sustainability principles. By 2030, Hohensinner predicts a further growth of up to 75 percent for fruit and vegetable sales in Central Europe.
