"Sometimes we do a few onions", says MSP Onions' Lindert Moerdijk - a clear understatement. This clip shows this Dutch company's new onion processing plant currently running at full speed.

"We used to be able to pack 80,000 tons, with 30 people. Now, we can do 200,000 tons of onions with just five people. Our internal logistics is now fully automated. So, there are 60% fewer transport movements. And everything can be traced live. MSP Onions also uses artificial intelligence. This means our sorting technology is at the highest level in the world. That's for both internal and external quality."
Lindert had previously already mentioned climate change as the reason for this investment. "We're dealing with long wet and dry periods. That's stressful for the onions and disastrous for their quality. Manual sorting couldn't address these issues. The current machines can't see into the product. That's why we decided to build this factory," he concludes.
