Arthur Georges, Ag'Pom:

"A new production area for winter carrots"

"Although the production of French carrots is stagnating in terms of acreage, we are seeing a geographical shift," reports Arthur Georges of 'Ag'Pom. "Carrot growers in the Manche region are facing many problems, particularly related to plot rotation. The area devoted to carrot production is decreasing. Here in Haute-Normandy, no-one was growing carrots 5 years ago for the fresh market. Today, we can see that production slowly taking hold."

Ag'Pom, a family business initially specialized in the production and marketing of potatoes, is one of these new carrot producers in Haute-Normandie. "We finished our first harvest with satisfaction. All the carrots are now in cold storage. Our objective is to continue developing with this product."

The company started marketing a month ago. "Part of our carrots are sold by Grand Frais. This firm is specialized in the sale of fresh fruits and vegetables to consumers. The demand is high. Another part is marketed by wholesalers who work with the catering industry. This market is currently quieter due to the health crisis caused by Covid-19." However, Arthur is quite optimistic for the rest of the campaign. "I think there will be demand. We are still at the beginning of the season. There are still carrots to be harvested in the North."

About Ag'Pom
Ag'Pom is a family business based in Seine-Maritime. The Georges family has been producing and marketing potatoes for several generations. In order to differentiate itself from other potato producers, who are numerous in the region, Ag'Pom is developing the cultivation of vegetables, with carrots as the flagship product.
