Clementines from the Sibari plain sold under the Orsero brand

The Sibari plain in Calabria is well known in Italy for clementine cultivation and for the production of citrus fruit in general thanks to a particularly suitable microclimate. For years, specific varieties and production techniques have been chosen to obtain fruits with a deep color, sweetness and uniform grades.

It is therefore no surprise that Gruppo Orsero has formed a partnership with some leading clementine producers from Corigliano Rossano, right in the heart of the Sibari plain. The objective is to create a hub and promote and commercialize the best clementine varieties of Italian origin all over southern Europe under the Orsero brand.

The citrus fruit varieties follow a well-defined calendar: Orogross, Clemenrubi and Spinoso are followed by Comune clementines and late cultivars Hernandina, Mandalate, Lanelate. Last but not least, the prestigious Tang Gold, a late variety grown and commercialized only by selected partners.

"This initiative is part of a wider Gruppo Orsero project aimed at promoting the Italian agrifood chain. Over the years, we developed our know how and invested a lot in the imported produce chain managing all phases with extreme care - from production in the areas of origin, transport and ripening down to distribution to guarantee fruits of the highest quality that are always healthy and fresh. We focus on the Italian produce with the same dedication to bring excellent domestic productions on the tables of consumers," commented Daniele Viti, recently-appointed sales manager of Fruttital Srl after a lengthy experience as sales manager for the big retail chain.

"The project aims at meeting new consumer needs, as they are increasingly looking for traceable certified Italian produce, which is important for the future of our country."

The Group will make available its know how and its capillary distribution network. The first step will be to set up a cooperative to gather all participating businesses and which will commercialize the produce thanks to the strength of the Orsero brand.

The next step will be to build a new and modern harvesting, monitoring and packaging center that can provide all kinds of services to traditional markets as well as to the European big distribution chain.

All packaging solutions will be entirely made of recyclable cardboard. The produce will be distributed through the big distribution chain and traditional channels. The produce and packaging will be selected to meet specific client needs.
