Enrique Parias, General Director of La Joya de la Corona:

"The good size of the Queen Selection mandarins will give them a great competitive advantage this year"

The current clementine and mandarin campaign is characterized by the abundance of medium and small sizes, so the fruits with a good size are the most coveted. A little less than two months before the start of their harvest, the Queen Selection mandarins may arrive in a very favorable market.

“We are happy to announce that this year, the campaign of our exclusive Queen Selection® mandarin should be a success if the weather conditions in Seville remain stable. The sizes are expected to be exceptional,” says Enrique Parias, general director of La Joya de la Corona, who expects to market more than 3 million kilos of this variety. "The good size of the Queen Selection mandarins will give them a great competitive advantage this year," he says.

“Queen Selection® is a quality label created to guarantee excellent and stable taste qualities. It is the result of 6 years of work in the selection of patterns and plots and in fertilization tests to increase the sugar content, with a thorough study of the optimal harvesting moments. We are able to supply a unique mandarin, with quality parameters that are very difficult to match in the period when we produce it, from mid-January to mid-April,” says Enrique Parias.

According to the company's General Director, the Queen variety has traditionally been one with great potential in terms of organoleptic qualities, although many of the areas where it is produced were not getting the best out of it. "The macrophiylla caused many problems in the skin, so some producers harvested it prematurely, causing it to lose its flavor attributes," he says.

"The exclusive use of Carrizo patterns, as well as soil nutrition rich in calcium, among other factors, allows us to obtain a fruit with an average of 12º brix, a minimum juice content of 45% and a maximum acidity of 8; Average 5. The Queen Selection® mandarin is very attractive, with a very characteristic flattened shape, excellent color and peel. It is also virtually seedless and has a great flavor.”

La Joya de la Corona is selling this mandarin variety to supermarket chains in different European countries, such as Austria, Portugal, France, Switzerland or Germany. It is also selling other fruits and vegetables such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits and other mandarin varieties, as well as organic berries, leeks and carrots, zucchini, peppers and broccoli and cauliflower.
