The Dutch Limgroup to reorganize

The Dutch Limgroup has undergone unprecedented growth in recent years. That's led the organization to the decision to adapt to this new situation. At the same time, a course change will be implemented at the end of 2020. That means a reshuffling of 30% of the jobs at this high-quality asparagus and strawberry varieties.

Reorganization needed to meet the future better
Limgroup used to be the Proeftuin Noord Limburg. This company expanded significantly. The varieties this breeding company produces were in great demand worldwide. Limgroup was readying itself for further expansion. In recent years, however, the asparagus market has stabilized. The Limgroup doesn't anticipate growth to return to more than 25% per year. As a result, the organization is too heavily equipped for its future tasks.

Added to that, the coronavirus pandemic has affected particularly export countries. The Limgroup board has, therefore, decided to implement a reorganization. "This reorganization is necessary to future-proof the Limgroup. The company is increasingly strengthening its solid asparagus base. That's with innovative strawberry varieties that have been added to its portfolio. A slimmed-down Limgroup will be stronger than it is today," says CEO Vincent Deenen.

Limgroup taking immediate action
The Limgroup obviously regrets the departure of the many permanent, valued employees. "We're doing our best to ensure that these employees' departure goes as smoothly as possible for them." The company is, however, already preparing for its next phase. "We'll be coming out of this reorganization strongly."

"We're taking immediate action to boost the company. That will be characterized by speed, flexibility, and client-focus. We're building a stronger Limgroup that will surprise its clients with new, innovative varieties. And thus contributes to a sustainable future," says Deenen.

Broad support base
These changes are supported by the Dutch Works Council, which is closely involved in the process. The Works Council, trade unions, and Limgroup's management have agreed, in principle. The Works Council naturally regrets this reorganization. But if the Limgroup wants to meet the future better, it's inevitable. The board, Works Council, and trade unions are currently trying to find an optimal balance. On the one hand, employees affected by the reorganization have to be let go, respectfully. On the other, the Limgroup must be able to move forward effectively.
