Hugo Mestre, of Mesfruits:

"The Snow apple harvest has started in France"

This year, the weather conditions have been favorable for the good development of the variety. According to Hugo Mestre, of the company Mesfruits, the harvest will be very good. "We have had cool nights and good temperature ranges. The color of the fruits is simply magnificent."

The sector has just started harvesting in the Alps and in the southwest. Regarding the organic supply, a part of the orchards is under conversion. "Starting next year, consumers will be pleased to find Snow Bio on the shelves."

As for the technical evaluations of the producers, they are very satisfactory: "This apple is easy to produce. The variety resists apple scab, it does not need any chemical thinning of the flowers, nor manual fruit thinning, and requires only very little pruning during the first years. Also, it is harvested in one go thanks to its easy coloration. Furthermore, the variety is very productive and no sign of alternation has been observed in the trees in full production."

"The fruits have an interesting size, with a beautiful deep red color. Inside, the pulp is very white and oxidizes slowly. The fruit is sweet, crunchy and juicy, with a good balance between sweet and sour."

In Europe, the Snow variety is produced in Italy, Switzerland, Serbia and France. On a European scale, the total production this year will amount to 22,000 tons.
