Turkey: Bursa Black Figs export season started

Producers in Bursa, a city in northwestern Turkey, started to harvest black figs on August 16 and exports began on August 18. Black figs cost 22 Turkish Lira (2.53 Euro) per kilo. This year, the first export was destined to Hong Kong.

Hamit Aygul, Bursa Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry stated that black figs are identified with Bursa and reminded that the product received Geographical Indication.

“Bursa ranks third in figs production in the country. 85-90% of our yields are exported. Last year, we produced 28.000 tons of figs, this year we expect this to increase to 31.500 tons.” said Aygul.
