In the first half of the year, the Mediterranean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters' Association (AKIB) increased exports by 17% and reached a total export value of 510.7 million USD (446.5 million Euro).
Nejdat Sin, the chairman of AKIB stated that the association is responsible for 43% of the country’s 1.17 billion USD (1.02 billion Euro) worth of fresh fruits and vegetables exports.
“In this period, we exported the most to Russia, Romania and Ukraine. We achieved highest increase in our exports to Poland, the Netherlands and the UK.” said chairman Sin.
Stating that Turkish fresh fruits and vegetables exporters benefited from the opportunities that have arisen due to the pandemic, chairman Sin said that Turkey exported 1.7 million tons of products during the period from January to June.
In the same period, AKIB’s top export market was Russia with an export value of 202.6 million USD (117.1 million Euro). The association increased its exports to this country by 37%. Russia was followed by Romania with an export value of 53.6 million USD (46.8 million Euro) and increase by 34%. Ukraine ranked third with an export value of 40.7 million USD (35.5 million Euro) and an increase by 62%.
“We achieved the most significant increase in our exports to Poland (153%) and reached an export value of 20.7 million USD (18.1 million Euro). The Netherlands followed with an increase by 120% and an export value of 5.28 million USD (4.62 million Euro). We increased our exports to the UK by 75% and reached an export value of 5.55 million USD (4.85 million Euro).” said chairman Nejdat Sin.
Mediterranean Region exported 78% of citrus from Turkey
From January to June, AKIB exported 78% of citrus from Turkey. The association exported 125.7 million USD (109.93 million Euro) worth of mandarins, 92 million USD (80.4 million Euro) worth of lemons, 60.5 million USD (80.4 million Euro) worth of oranges, 52.9 million USD (46.2 million Euro) worth of grapefruits. Russia ranked first in the association’s citrus exports with an export value of 119.1 million USD (104.1 million Euro), followed by Ukraine with 33.4 million USD (29.2 million Euro) and Iraq with 25.2 million USD (22 million Euro).
AKIB achieved the highest increase in its citrus exports to Italy by 536% and reached an export value of 3.63 million USD (3.17 million Euro). This was followed by Belarus with an increase by 213% and an export value of 4.12 million USD (3.6 million Euro) and Poland with an increase by 197% and an export value of 18 million USD (15.7 million Euro).
