Olivier Skrock, Festival:

“It is difficult for French supermarkets to complete the stone fruit programs this year”

There is a shortage of stone fruit across Europe. Italian, Spanish, French and Greek producers faced periods of frost and hail storms that caused significant losses for all products. “It is a very complicated campaign with an important lack of volumes. For the purchasing centers of supermarkets, it is quite difficult to complete the programs this year,” explains Olivier Skrock of the import-export company Festival. The company is selling most of its products to supermarkets.

High prices
The merchandise deficit made prices go up. According to Olivier, the final consumer is ready to pay these high prices for good quality fruit. “But because of the difficult weather conditions, the quality is not always met.” Besides stone fruit from different producers, Festival also sells apricots from its own production based in Châteauneuf-sur-Isère. The company started producing apricots in 2017.

About Festival
Festival was created in 2004. The headquarters are located in Perpignan. The company also has branches in Brittany and in Spain. Its key products are stone fruit, vegetables from Brittany of the brand Prince de Bretagne, Spanish citrus fruit, beans and zucchinis from Morocco.
