Between late February and mid-May, Italian entrepreneurs have experienced a period of general uncertainty due to the Covid-19 emergency and the measures taken to counter the virus. The organization of work changed: those who could carry on their activities had to introduce precautions such as social distancing, and working from home became the norm.
B2A from Rovereto (Trento) is a company focusing on manufacturing execution systems and the integration of industrial systems with effective and flexible IT solutions, and it has had to deal with the same problems as everybody else.
"We work mainly with apple cooperatives and also provide customer assistance for the solutions and software we supply. Where possible, our technicians worked remotely during the quarantine, otherwise interventions were performed at night-time and during weekends when there were no employees around," explains Barbara Doria, partner and administration and marketing manager at B2A.
"It was not easy. I have to admit our collaborators were very understanding, especially when it came to schedule changes. We organized video-conferences daily, although we prefer waiting for the emergency to pass before working on new projects. As for the suppliers, we have postponed everything to a future date. Things have thankfully almost gone back to normal."
Time to perfect
The lockdown has given the company time to perfect various projects, and especially BinOculus: a warehouse general supervision system made entirely in 3D that uses animation to simulate the entire route of goods both inside and outside the production and storage units.
"BinOculus was developed to meet the needs of apple and small fruit warehouses in particular, but it can be applied to any storage center. We tried to perfect the system even more according to client feedback and the data we collected."
Direct contact with people remains the best solution
"With the emergency, we understood how audio-visual means are not enough to build customer loyalty. There is nothing like being with clients to see what they need, them just telling it to you is not the same thing."
"It also depends on the approach. This is why we will only take part in 2020 fairs if we can physically be there, otherwise we will wait for next year."
