In the Ardèche, a retailer sentenced for lying about the origin of kiwis

In Privas, Ardèche, a retailer was tried on Tuesday before the correctional court for deception. Indeed, he was caught a few months ago for having sold 400 tons of Italian kiwis presented as organic French kiwis.

As civil party, the National Federation of Fruit Producers, the Peasant Confederation and the Rural Coordination won the case against the retailer. His retail company based in Vesseaux was fined 60,000 euros [68,351 USD]. His farm based in Saint-Didier-sous-Aubenas was fined 10,000 euros [11,392 USD]. Each federation will receive 1,000 euros [1,139 USD] for moral damage.

“French farmers make great efforts in terms of traceability and quality,” declared Aurélien Soubeyrand, fruit manager at the FDSEA of the Ardèche. “These black sheep are doing considerable damage to the entire profession.”
