Mushroom sales continue despite, or perhaps thanks to, the corona virus. "It makes a difference for us that we mainly focus on the supermarkets. Those orders are going well. During the hoarding period, there was even considerable demand, currently it is still higher than usual," says Paul Verhoeckx of the mushroom wholesaler of the same name from Kerkdriel.
According to him, prices are at a good level and the sales of the special mushrooms continues unabated. "We have a few catering customers and sales fell, of course, but orders are starting to loosen up again because they have found some sales through collection and delivery," said the mushroom dealer.
Paul himself has not experienced any problems with shortages of workers for the harvest of the mushrooms. He does occasionally hear the complaints of others around him. "We are not complaining. The prices are pretty good and it will all be fine. We mainly sell the mushrooms on the Norwegian and domestic market. The only thing that has changed is that there is more demand for packaged product."
