International laboratory group Tentamus has succeeded in developing a surface test for Corona. "From now on we can carry out these tests for the corona virus in our laboratories. This means that we can perform tests on all kinds of surfaces such as packaging, shopping trolleys etc. for SARS-CoV-2", explains Paul Andrei, Managing Director of the BAV Institute, part of the Tentamus Group.

In these difficult times, many people and companies want more security and information about how widespread the virus is in their environment and the potential for infection. "Correctly conducted environmental investigations contribute to a better overview of the spread of the virus in our environment. We provide interested parties with suitable swabs with which samples can be taken from, for example, sales counters, protective clothing and packaging surfaces (including plastic or wooden crates and cardboard boxes). These samples are then analysed for SARS-CoV-2 in our laboratories," Andrei says on the procedure.
The tests are to be applied to sales counters, door handles and shopping trolleys, among other things, as well as a wide variety of packaging materials, such as cardboard boxes and plastic crates.
Swift and efficient process
In order to make the procedure as simple and practical as possible for the interested party, the necessary equipment is sent by post. On the basis of the sampling instructions contained, the samples can be sent back to the laboratory group uncooled in a transport medium. Within three days after receipt of the samples, the corresponding test results can be obtained.

In addition to surfaces, the laboratory group is now also endeavouring to be able to examine fruit and vegetable samples soon, they explain: "Tentamus is currently working on the validation of a method for testing fruit and vegetables for SARS-CoV-2, so that we can also offer this service to retailers and producers as soon as possible."
