Patatas Meléndez sets up foodtruck next to Ifema's temporary hospital

The Valladolid-based company Patatas Meléndez, leader in the fresh potato sector, has launched an action plan against COVID-19.

Thousands of kilos of potatoes have been delivered so far to groups in need in Madrid through the Madrid City Council and the Food Bank, and they will continue to provide this aid periodically in the coming weeks. A foodtruck has also been placed next to Ifema, where food will be offered daily to volunteers in the temporary hospital set up there.

The installation of this foodtruck has been carried out answering the call for solidarity from the Council of Health of the Region of Madrid.

The company's foodtruck at Ifema will serve 800 meals a day for 400 volunteers; a total of 800 sandwiches with different fillings daily, as well as other options that will be introduced to add variety to the menu.

The picnic pack will be completed with 800 daily bottles of water and bags of potato chips. There will also be potatoes served with various sauces, which will be prepared by Patatas Meléndez.

Commitment, safety, donations and supply guarantees
Patatas Meléndez thus reaffirms its commitment to making basic food available to all people; a responsibility as an essential service that they are facing with all the labor safety guarantees against COVID-19.

Other initiatives from Patatas Meléndez include the donation of 44,000 kilos of potatoes to the Department of Latina and Hortaleza of the Madrid City Council, with the aim of helping many families in need, and 22,000 kilod to the Food Bank.

Also, given the increase in the demand for basic products, with potatoes being one of the main ones, the firm's online store is selling 10 kilo boxes of potatoes of Spanish origin to make it easier for people to stock up for confinement.

In the words of Javier Meléndez, CEO of Patatas Meléndez, “in addition to providing the best service to consumers confined to their homes, Patatas Meléndez aims to ensure that basic staple foods reach our healthcare personnel, volunteers and the most disadvantaged people affected by the COVID-19 crisis.”
