The strawberry campaign in southern Italy is proceeding well. "We have reached 15% of the production. There is a lot of demand at the moment, especially from the big retail chain, but supply does not seem to meet demand. Productions are at least 20 days early: we were expecting more fruit, but we will have to wait a few more days," reports Antonio Gallicchio, field manager for GF&G Frutta in Scanzano Jonico (Matera).

"We planted the Marisol variety two years ago and I do not think we will change it soon, considering the success of the past campaign and of the first few weeks of 2020."

"Our strawberries are colorful, sweet and juicy but mostly safe, as they are obtained thanks to careful agronomic management. We take care of our crops as if they were our children. At the moment, harvesting operations are carried out twice a week with an average of 13 gr/plant each time."

"With packaging entirely dedicated to the Marisol variety, we supply some markets in Milan, Padua, Brescia, Florence and Turin as well as a big retail chain in northern Italy. As for the south, the main destinations are Bari, Fasano, Bisceglie and Lecce. We also export to Austria and Germany and have just signed agreements with a few French markets. Prices hover around €3/kg, slightly more than last year."
