The organizers of the Tavola trade show in Belgium have decided to postpone this event. It will now take place from 15 to 15 September 2020. This is due to the current situation regarding the coronavirus outbreak. The decision was made after extensive discussion and evaluations.
The Belgian government and FPS Public Health have not imposed any restrictions or extra measures on holding fairs and events in the country. Despite this, the Tavola organizers decided to postpone the event to later in the year. This decision was taken because of the trade show's international character.
It would be impossible for the trade fair's international exhibitors and visitors to attend. This week, the organizers started receiving messages from many of the show's overseas visitors. These include retail buyers, purchasing groups, as well as retailers. They indicated that they would/may not come to Tavola. Not while it was being held on the current dates in March. This is due to the coronavirus outbreak.
These were often decisions and guidelines imposed on them from their managers or head offices. The same issue has also arisen for a significant number of foreign exhibitors - a ban on international travel and, consequently, participation in trade fairs.
This virus has an additional consequence. There are many tastings on offer at Tavola. Due to the risk of infection and a feeling of insecurity, exhibitors did not think they would be able to offer these. Tastings have actually been discontinued in the retail sector. This would, of course, also entirely negate the trade fair's atmosphere and set-up.
According to the organizers, "We want to offer clarity and certainty to all our domestic and international exhibitors and visitors. To do so, it was, therefore, decided to hold Tavola 2020 on 13, 14, and 15 September 2020."
"The trade show's entire set-up will, of course, remain in place. All commitments and fringe events will be held intact. It is only the date that will change, from March to September. The participation of all exhibitors will, therefore, automatically and identically be transferred to this new date."
