Harald Jantzen, K-D Hermann LLC contact labelling systems:

"We rely on German-made quality machines for our labelling systems"

Sustainability and environmental protection will remain major issues for the fruit and vegetable sector in 2020 - in Germany and internationally.

At Fruit Logistica, which starts on Wednesday in Berlin, many companies will be presenting their new concepts, and packaging solutions will once again be at the forefront of the industry. K-D Hermann GmbH contact Auszeichnungssysteme is one of the world's leading manufacturers of identification and labelling systems. For more than 30 years, the company has been supplying hand-held labelling devices, labels, label printers and labelling systems under the contact brand - and of course it will also be present at the trade fair. "We will be presenting many innovations at our stand at Fruit Logistica 2020. These are sustainable products from the world of labels and sales promotion," says sales manager Harald Jantzen.

"At Fruit Logistica, we will be able to present our extensive portfolio of labelling and awarding products to a very interesting target group in a vivid way. We see ourselves as a system supplier and offer everything from labels, hand labelling machines, label printers, labelling systems and sales promotion products for the POS from a single source. Especially with regard to the market presence in the area of fruit and vegetable producers and traders, on the German market.

Sustainability and environmental protection are major issues. Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role, especially in the packaging sector. "New materials and manufacturing processes are constantly being developed, which we as label manufacturers use to offer our customers more sustainable products. We are now able to supply many sustainable materials, especially for adhesive labels. These include labels made from grass or biological waste, for example, or film labels made from renewable, cellulose-based raw materials," Jantzen continues, referring to the trends for the coming years.

"We also rely on innovative materials in the area of sales promotion. Our promoflex product range includes fruit and vegetable bags made of bioplastics, thermal cash register rolls without chemical colour developers or security threads made of hemp.

The three most important new products presented this year are Design4Recycling, a completely recyclable label, the organic fruit and vegetable bag from the promoflex range, and the economical banderoles from contact. Harald Jantzen explains: "With our conpostum-labels we offer a completely compostable labelling solution. Both the face material that is printed and the adhesive are industrially compostable. According to the motto 'Design4Recycling', complete packages can be made compostable with conpostum labels from contact."

The organic fruit and vegetable bag from the promoflex sales promotion product range is intended to be the sustainable alternative to conventional and environmentally harmful plastic bags. "Our bags are made of a compostable bioplastic, meeting the currently highest standards of sustainability. The corn starch used is made from a guaranteed GMO-free corn and contains no harmful and polluting chemicals. The convenient size of 5 litres capacity meets the requirements customers are used to. On request, the compostable knot bags are available printed with the company logo."

Sleeves are in fashion - as well they should be. "Banding is the economical as well as sustainable alternative to conventional packaging such as plastic films or similar. Our banderoles offer a cost-effective and safe transport solution through ultrasonic welding, which will inspire demanding customers. Printed banding also contributes to strengthening the manufacturer's brand, as the company logo is located in the immediate vicinity of the product."

As a family business with its own production at the Hirschhorn  headquarters, the company focuses on quality "made in Germany". Jantzen emphasizes: "Every contact hand labeller is unique and is manufactured in the company's own factory. As a label printing company with trained specialist staff and an in-house pre-press department, quality and flexibility are guaranteed. Through a large network of sales partners at home and abroad, as well as trained office staff, our customers have a reliable, competent partner at their side."
