The well-known South Tyrolean asparagus producer Condin has joined forces with 15 other farmers from the Rovigo and Padova regions to form production and marketing cooperative O.P. Asparago Condin. Their products are marketed throughout Europe under the name Bellinus
On approximately 200 hectares of cultivable land along the Adige, vegetable producers mainly grow white, green and purple asparagus. And they have set themselves ambitious goals for 2020, based on their large production areas and modern know-how. The start of the asparagus harvest in the heated foil tunnel is scheduled for mid-February, followed by the start of the harvest for outdoor asparagus in the second half of March at the latest, which can be delivered until June.
The Bellinus producers are particularly proud of the asparagus from certified organic cultivation, which is harvested on around 40 hectares and is therefore available in considerable quantities.
They want to meet the highest customer demands right from the start. For example, the freshly pierced asparagus is immediately shocked in fresh ice water for no more than half an hour after harvesting. This procedure prevents the asparagus stems from discolouring, they remain white and the cells are preserved. The asparagus retains its freshness, taste and valuable ingredients and thus its excellent quality.
Immediate processing and rapid transport, which works perfectly thanks to sophisticated logistics and highly qualified forwarding companies, means that the asparagus - even in large quantities - reaches consumers throughout Europe within just 24 hours. O.P. Asparago Condin guarantees an uninterrupted cold chain.
Incidentally, the new possibilities of the merger offer a previously unattainable variety of delivery options. Personalised packaging, a wide range of calibrations and every conceivable mixture of Bellinus asparagus is part of the new cooperative's day-to-day business, thanks to a state-of-the-art machine park. Peeled asparagus is also available from grading class 16 mm.
Last but not least, sustainability is also a major issue for the producers from Northern Italy. They rely on recyclable films and environmentally friendly packaging. All common deposit systems are integrated into the production and delivery processes.
