The table potato market is quite balanced in the last week before Christmas. Farmers are not holding back their produce too much in the face of subdued price expectations, so current demands can be met well. Domestic demand is still at a steady level. Only in the last shopping days before Christmas should retail sales pick up accordingly. The export market has also been quiet so far.
There are always inquiries. However, actual business transactions have hardly been concluded to date due to differing price expectations. Producer prices remained unchanged compared with the previous week. In Lower Austria a price range of 22,- Euro/100kg to 28,- Euro/100kg depending on variety and quality was mentioned at the beginning of the week - from Upper Austria unchanged prices of up to 28,- Euro/100kg were also reported.
Onion sales improve
The onion market is quite balanced shortly before Christmas. Domestic business is now much more buoyant. But interest has also increased in exports to Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The buyers continue to focus on beautiful and large goods. Prices are mostly stable at the previous week's level. For onions, cleaned and sorted in the box, between 23,- and 28,- Euro/100 kg were paid, depending on quality and size. The price level is below that for qualitatively weaker or smaller lots.
No pre-Christmas price change for carrots
In Lower Austria, a balanced situation is reported for carrots. Domestic sales volumes are satisfactory. In addition, exports can also be handled on a smaller scale. There were no more changes to the last week's price level.
