Late peaches and nectarines increasingly popular

Daniele Neri, producer and nursery gardener from Faenza, reports that late selections were harvested until October 23rd as fruits maintained well thanks to the lack of rain.

"Those who love peaches and nectarines tend to purchase them for as long as they can. The important thing is that they are good. This year, we managed to harvest high-quality fruits up until 10 days ago and traders sold them without a problem."

Neri also grows the "Romagna Mia" white nectarines, which have a red stone that 'stains' the flesh when ripe. Harvesting is carried out between September 15th and 20th, yet fruits keep well on plants for days.

"Late peach and nectarine varieties are interesting, yet they need to be valid. We are currently testing an even later variety to be harvested until October 10th-15th."

Late October selection

"This is a very interesting selection, as it is very late. Selling nectarines in late September-early October is an excellent economic opportunity when the taste is nice and grades are large."
