Many customers will be rejoicing now that Morrisons has decided to bring back its 1kg version of the fruit. The supermarket is again selling its £2 Giant Torres avocados. These come from Argentina, measure up to 25cm in diameter and have taken nearly a year to grow. Morrisons said the bulbous fruits are back on shelves this week, having sold out last year. The grocer has been working with grower Haracio Frias to cultivate, over 310 days, a second batch.
Mr Frias has been monitoring crop conditions in order to "harvest at the optimum time, ensuring the best quality, creamy avocados", said the company.
Morrisons "avocado expert" Liam Hancock said of the relaunch: "The Giant Torres avocados were a huge hit with our customers last year so we’re delighted to be bringing them back. They are perfect for sharing or as an ingredient in meals such as avocado on toast."
The Giant Torres avocado, nicknamed the "chameleon avocado" due to its colour changing from green to black as it ripens, is known for its high calcium content and soft, generous fruit.
