Market Report Austria W 41/2019:

Austria: 'Stable potato market, onion harvest ending'

Due to the optimal conditions in recent weeks, the Austrian potato harvest has largely been completed. Only a few isolated areas are still to be harvested. The yields remained very regional until recently. The quality-related sortings this year are within the usual framework.

The delivery of the goods is continuous. Domestically, some supermarket chains are still doing warehousing activities, but apart from that, the sales are quiet. In the export, the domestic price level is not competitive. At the producer prices nothing changes and also the further price trend is stable. In Lower Austria, a price range of € 22 up to €28 per 100kg for stored goods was mentioned at the beginning of the week. From Upper Austria came reports of prices of up to €28 per 100kg.

Onion harvest finished
On the Austrian onion market, the stable situation remains. Occasionally, small quantities are harvested, otherwise the onion harvest is complete. In addition to domestic sales, there are some inquiries about exports, but actual business is slow. Regarding the prices, there are no changes compared to the previous week. For onions, cleaned and sorted in the box with the appropriate quality and sizes, between €23 and 28 per 100kg is being paid.

Carrot harvest runs quietly
The Lower Austrian carrot market is still calm. Harvesting for storage is slowly beginning and growers mainly continue to harvest for the current needs. Demand is still calm. Producer prices are stable at last week's levels.
