Storage technology and diversity of varieties in the foreground

On Thursday, August 29th, the Weuthen Potato Day was held for the 30th time. In a new field in the immediate vicinity of the main Weuthen site in Schwalmtal-Waldniel, a pleasing number of producers, traders, breeders and suppliers gathered. Particular emphasis was placed on the newly approved potato varieties of the respective seed supplier and the latest methods in storage and processing technology.

New registrations: lots of french fries potatoes
The market for fries is booming in Germany. The finishing industry responds to this social trend and is constantly launching new, modern French fries. On the demo field - where the respective breeders presented their new registrations - the potato potatoes shaped the event. Interseed had even brought three new registrations in Pommes (Poseidon, Montis & Francis) and puts on both the early and the late.

In addition to this fast-growing market segment, new table potatoes are constantly being placed on the market. This year's new registrations in this area include, among others, the Lea (Solana), La Vie (HZPC) & Mary Ann (Norika).

In the area of ​​subcontracting, new processes are constantly being developed and launched on the market. Among the first exhibitors this year was Conpower from Munich-Planegg. The lighting expert developed an LED solution to inhibit solanine formation within the potato. The aim is to significantly improve the product quality of the tuber.

The Omnivent company presented an update of the fully automatic and computer-controlled storage system OmniCuro, with which the potatoes are ventilated and illuminated efficiently and user-friendly during storage. Menno Chemie presented an optimized solution for cleaning large potato crates. The market leader in packaging, NNZ GmbH, emphasized the latest packaging concepts around the potato.
