Pablo Linares, head of the quality labels of Reinette apples and Conference pears of El Bierzo (in the Spanish province of Leon), has warned that the 2019 harvest of both fruits will be below average due to the inclement weather recorded in the area.
During the presentation of the Quality Route of the Reinette Apple and Conference Pear, attended by the president of the Council of Bierzo, Gerardo Álvarez Courel, and the councilors of Carracedelo, Daniel Franco, and of Camponaraya, Yoana Marián Franco Rodríguez, a report on the previous campaign was given by Linares.
Usually, agricultural producers harvest an average of 13 million kilos of Conference pears and 3.5 million of Reinette apples. The two fruits take up around 700 hectares in the Bierzo.
Daniel Franco, meanwhile, did not fail to warn that the prices of the two fruits "are similar to those of 30 years ago, even though the costs have multiplied by five times" over these three decades.
