Speaking on behalf of Huelva's berry sector, the president of Freshuelva, Alberto Garrocho, has pointed to the need to improve the province's logistics infrastructure in order to optimize the export of red fruits and have greater opportunities to reach emerging markets, like China, Japan or Saudi Arabia. To be able to ship the fruit in the shortest possible time and allow it to arrive as fresh as possible to the points of sale, the sector believes that Huelva could use an airport.
Garrocho said that such an infrastructure would allow the sector to continue growing and has appealed to the administrations to meet this demand.
Regarding the recently concluded strawberry campaign in Huelva, which accounts for more than 95% of the Spanish volume, the president of Freshuelva said that the season has been "moderately acceptable," since it has been marked by the low average prices and the initial problems in the planting.
