On Wednesday June 19 it was once again time for the annual Open Day at nursery farm Rusthoeve in Colijnsplaat in Zeeland. Despite the rainy weather that afternoon it there was a relaxed atmosphere and a good sized crowd. "We might have started the day with thunder storms, but the attendance was higher than we had initially hoped due to the bad weather," says Charlotte van Sluijs-Poppe. "All the tours we had planned on the fields were able to continue as normal."
At the nursery farm there were a number of demonstrations on the fields and there was plenty of attention for a number of projects and workshops that concerned the cultivation of the future. Various stallholders were present to bring their material to the attention of the sector and there were new projects and innovations to admire at the Open Day.
The growers present still had last year's drought on their minds. The opinions and prospects for this year were varied among the growers present. "I'd prefer no rain this year. Because I can irrigate, but my neighbour can't," joked one of this present.
At the moment the land is doing well and the crops look good. However, the next two months will be vital in determining how the next two months will go and how the products will come out of the ground.
