This week, the first batches of local sweet cherries from the new harvest have arrived on the Polish market, as reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.
So far, sweet cherries have entered the market in small wholesale batches at a price of $ 1.56-2.08 / kg, with the quality of the products offered being assessed as low. At the same time, market participants point out that due to the cold weather recorded in May, the peak in the supply will be reached a bit later than last year.
The project experts also said that most of the sweet cherries currently on the market are imported. The main suppliers of these imports are Greece, Serbia and Spain. As for the prices of imported cherries, at the moment they significantly exceed those paid for the local production. At the moment, they oscillate between 3.64 and 8.58 $ per kg.
It is worth noting that the prices paid for the first batches of Polish sweet cherries are on average 67% higher than at the start of the season last year. At the same time, market participants estimate the demand for local sweet cherries as quite high and don't expect prices to fall in the short term.
