Turkey: Alanya to grow more mangoes

Alanya, a district in the Turkish southern city of Antalya has taken the initiative to bring more mango saplings to producers. Tahir Goktepe, Alanya Agricultural Chamber's president handed in some of these saplings to the Directorate of Provincial Agriculture.

Goktepe said: "The objective of this meeting today is to introduce this tropical fruit to our producers. To this end, we conducted negotiations with India to import samplings. Every year, 6 thousand producers visit our provincial directorate to get registered. When they come, they will see the mango saplings in the entrance."

Mango could become the third tropical fruit in Alanya
Mehmet Ruzgar, head of the Directorate of Provincial Agriculture said: "Alanya is one of the rare places where tropical fruits can grow. We have achieved great success in greenhouse banana production. We have a special climate to grow almost anything. We have an increased production of avocados, now we grow avocados in area of  310 hectares and we have around 38 thousand trees. Mangoes may soon be ranked as the third tropical fruit in Alanya following bananas and avocados."
