The pressure has decreased, the prices are low but with some signs of recovery and the demand is increasing. This is a snapshot of the current market situation for fennel.
Marco Babbi of Caligari&Babbi: "At the end of March, the pressure was high because of the excess of product. Several production areas had overlapped with late early production and early late production. Now the situation is normal and we can sell without accumulating".

Prices are quite low, but with some signs of recovery, also because there are requests. The high quality of the product helps sales and reduces waste.
"At the moment, we buy fennel from Basilicata and Molise, with a percentage of 70% and 30% respectively. The product from Emilia Romagna, on the other hand, will be ready in a month's time. The quality is very high and this allows us to fully satisfy our customers.
The company sells both in Italy and abroad. Apart from a few particular packaged products, most are sold in bulk in crates, divided by size.
"Thanks to the high quality - concludes Babbi - and the weather conditions of recent days, the product is in an optimal state and this ensures a good shelf life.
