The annual revenue of organic food exceeded 3 billion Swiss francs [3 billion USD] for the first time. According to Bio Suisse, the main organization of the sector in the country. It is the French-speaking part of Switzerland that contributed the most to the organic growth in the country. In Romandy, the market share of organic foods rose to 9.9% in 2018, compared to 8.8% in 2017. French-speaking Switzerland is now hot on the heels of the German-speaking part (10% market share), and the Italian-speaking Swiss are last (8.6%).
Faced with this organic craze, many farmers adapt to the demand. In fact, at the end of 2018, 6,719 farms were producing according to the guidelines of Bio Suisse, which is 296 more than the previous year. Today, organic productions represent 15.4% of the total agricultural surfaces of the country (10% in plains, 23.6% in the mountains).
