The Austrian table potato market started without many changes in February. The readiness of the farmers to deliver is there. Given the stable price level and the rapid physiological aging of the stored goods, there is hardly any incentive this year to hold back goods for speculation. Domestic sales are quite satisfactory for the season. Exports are barely being done. De-stocking continues to progress swiftly. The first marketers are expected to have completed their sales in less than a month.
Raised prices in the premium segment
Regarding producer prices, there has recently been little change. Only prices in the premium sector went up slightly, due to the increase in warehousing costs. In Lower Austria, potatoes are still mostly sold at €25 Euro per 100 kg. For wire-worm-free, small packable premium goods with AMA quality label, up to €30 per 100 kg can be achieved now. In Upper Austria, up to €27 per 100 kg were last paid.
Sales of onions stagnating
The Austrian onion market is continuing its stable development at the high prices reached. Here, sales in Germany have calmed down somewhat compared to the previous weeks. For export, lots that need to be marketed quickly for quality reasons affect the market. For onions, cleaned and sorted in the box, depending on the quality and size, often between €48 and 52 per 100 kg were paid.
Carrot prices unchanged
The Lower Austrian carrot market continues the stable development of the last few weeks. The ranges are sold off steadily domestically, but there is also increasing interest from abroad. Prices remain unchanged at the levels reached.
