In February, a two-day seminar on the cultivation and processing of rare wild fruit will take place in Bolzano. Cultures such as Aronia, sea buckthorn, mini kiwi, cornelian cherries, Indian bananas, medlars, rose hips or wild plums are considered more or less exotic in South Tyrol. Consequently, little is known about cultivation conditions of these particular fruits.
Elderberry and hazelnut plants are scarce in this country, although elderberry and hazelnut are much better known than most other wild fruit species. It is all the more pleasing that the South Tyrolean Farmers' Association has managed to win over two experts from Austria for a two-day seminar on wild fruit. Eva Gantar from the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture will speak on the first day of the seminar about the cultivation conditions of elderberry, hazelnut, mini kiwi, sea buckthorn, cornelian cherries and rosehips.Practical unit
The second day of the seminar takes place ten days later in the Fachschule Haslach in Bolzano: Georg Innerhofer from the College of Agriculture and Forestry Silberberg (Styria) will show the participants in a very practical unit which products from elderberry, hazelnut, miniature Kiwi, sea buckthorn and cornelian cherries.The participants can try out various products.
The "On wild fruits and other exotics" seminar will take place on Friday, February 8 at the SBB headquarters in Bolzano and on Monday, February 18 at the Fachhochschule Haslach in Bolzano, from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm.
