European potato market (week 47)

Belgium: hardly any Innovator trade

Belgium

Fiwap / PCA Market Message:

The market is stable for the Fontane and Challenger varieties, firm for Innovator and calm for Bintje. In Bintje, some processors do not buy any more for the moment, others concentrate on the "unfit qualities" in order to work a lot of problem lots before they leave the hangar doors ... Purchases of the  Fontane and Challenger varieties continue for delivery in January, maybe beyond. For Innovators, there is virtually no trade. To get them out, prices need to increase.

Industrial varieties:

Fontane: 25.00 to 27,00€/q; stable market;

Challenger: 25.00 to 27.00€/q; stable market;

Innovator: 27.00 to 28.50€/q; firm market.

Bintje:

• "fryable quality": max 15% floating at 1060g/l and PSE min 335g/5kg: 18 to 25€/q. Very few offers, very few transactions; higher prices for exceptional occasions.

• "unfit quality": more than 15% floating point and / or PSE <345 g / 5 kg: 10 to 15 € / q. Quiet market (offer greater than or equal to demand). The offer remains urgent (clearing of hangars, last deliveries out of the field ...). Demand depends on the ability of the buyer to process batches (salt bath and wash). The price remains very dependent on the total tare (floating) and transport costs.

Netherlands

Few changes on potatonl.com (slight increases in cat IV and V). On the fresh produce market price between 27.00 and 33.00€/q (Nicola, Frieslander, Melody). For export, no changes with prices between 29.00 and 32.00€/q (over-size plants between 24.50 and 26.50€/q).

The Batavian processing has never produced as much as in October 2018: 370,500 tons of potatoes were processed, compared to 342,600 tons in October 2017. Dutch processing used 3,399.9 MT (millions of tons) from January to October 2018, which represents an increase over the same period in 2017.

France

Processing market: prices have strengthened last week in Bintje, Fontane and "other fries", with, in Bintje, a distinction between the "fit" and the "unfit" products... On the markets of fresh produce (domestic and export), activity is described as regular, with prices ranging from 25,00 to 31,00€/q in versatile varieties and between 36 and 42,00€/q in firm flesh.

Unwashed industrial potato, bulk, departure, Tax excl., North Seine, €/qt, min - max (avg) (RNM):

Germany

Harvests completed. On the fresh market (Rhineland), on November 16th the prices were unchanged for firm flesh at 32€/q for storage output, and 30€/q for storage output for the tender flesh. For firm flesh at the farm (Rhineland) prices ranged between 11.00 and 12.00€/q per 25kg bag (unchanged). Prices reaching € 30.00/q were given for superior quality. In the North of the country, good demand for ware potatoes, especially baby potatoes. Prices are firm. There are quality problems ( premature aging (germination, tubers losing (already!) Their turgidity, ...) following the abnormal heat of the summer and the late season in the South and South-West of the country, we already note the arrival of the "French" variety much earlier than a normal year.

In potatoes for industries (fries), unchanged prices, firm market. Agria at 28.00€/q, Fontane at 27.00 €/q, and Innovator/Ivory Russet at 29.00€/q. On the processing market prices remain stable and firm.

Off the fields, deduct 1,00€/q from these prices for sorting expenses.

Great Britain

Average producer price (all markets) week.45: 28,32€/q

(against € 28.37 in week 44).
