Social Media: image cultivation for the noble tuber

Within two years, The campaign Die Kartoffel – voll lecker campaign ("The Potato - Totally Delicious") has built up a community of nearly 45,000 fans on the Facebook social media platform. At the first Westphalian agricultural blogger camp in Münster, Philippe Kurt-Tchamendje from the advertising agency explained how product advertising on social networks can work. The image campaign is funded by voluntary contributions from farmers and potato companies.

On Facebook page "The Potato - Totally Delicious", which is filled with content by the advertising agency, interested people receive a new recipe every day, information or a question about the topic of the tuber. For online and social media manager Kurt-Tchamendje, social media is an important instrument of consumer communication, "because the Internet was not developed as a marketing tool, but for communication between people".

Financed by farmers and potato companies
Behind the marketing campaign for the potato is Marketing Gesellschaft mbH (CMM). It has set itself the goal of promoting the image and sales of potatoes throughout Germany. The reason: Younger people in particular know little or nothing about the many benefits of the potato, which go far beyond its taste. KMG's marketing work is funded by voluntary contributions from farmers, packagers, potato traders and other supporters.
