The agricultural sector in Almeria has started making use of the port of Almería for the shipment of its products. This was stated in a message published by the Port Authority of Almeria.
Maersk, the shipping company operating the regular line between the port of Almeria and the port of Algeciras, has carried a total of 24.96 million kilos of products since the inauguration of the service on 20 June. This includes products from the agricultural sector and the auxiliary industry, especially fertilizers, but also vegetables and olive oil.
Since the launch of this weekly line, Maersk has made 36 stopovers with the ships Max Lovalty, BF Caroda, Helmut and Avera.
The president of the Port Authority, Mari Carmen Ortiz, highlighted the importance that this new sea route already has "for the port of Almeria, and especially for the economy of the province." The port of Almeria is now only 12 hours away from the hub of Algeciras, and there it is connected to the rest of the world, providing the province with an international export and import platform."
