The price of garlic has been in a low position all year long. The once "invincible garlic" has fallen from its pedestal. The price of dried garlic has already reached its lowest position in four years. The price of fresh garlic in Henan this year is only half the price of fresh garlic last year.
Garlic
The price of garlic repeatedly set new record highs from 2016 onward. Afterwards, the surface area devoted to garlic plantation in China rapidly expanded and at the same time good weather conditions increased the production volume of garlic. The price of garlic subsequently went into decline and remained depressed as a result of excessive supply. Even in 2017, the surface area devoted to garlic plantations in China did not decrease. Therefore, when stored garlic entered the market in 2018, the price of garlic began to fall. Apart from excessive volumes of garlic in storage, large volumes of fresh garlic also hit the market and put further pressure on the price of stored garlic. The supply greatly exceeded demand and the price is not likely to show any great fluctuations this year.
