Mexico: Worldwide demand for organic bananas is growing
“The demand for organic bananas is growing. Not just in the United States, but also in Europe and the rest of the world. We are located in the state of Colima, which makes it possible to have organic bananas available year-round. These organic bananas are mostly exported, and therefore, we have a strong presence in countries such as the UK, Ireland, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Canada and the USA”, explains Audee Rios from Coliman Organics.

In addition to having organic banana production, the Coliman Group obtained in December of 2014 the fairtrade certification for Organic Bananas that are planted and harvested in Tecomán, Colima. “Selling our organic products under the Fairtrade criteria allows our collaborators to receive an additional amount of money called the Fairtrade Premium. This is used for projects that promote the improvement of the economic and social situation of the collaborators and their families, as well as the natural habitat.”
“This year we have opened a new organic banana farm in Tecomán, which has about 300 hectares of organic production. The projected production is 3,800 boxes per hectare per year, in order to meet the needs of our customers in the international market. By having these three organic banana farms, Coliman Organic is one of the largest organic banana producers in the world”.
Coliman Organics is present at the New York Produce show 2017. Visit their booth at stand 371, where they will showcase one of their most important products the organic bananas.
