Dole Food Company, Inc. has announced that its Costa Rican subsidiary Standard Fruit Company of Costa Rica S.A. has received the “Social Responsibility in Action” award and was also recognized as a “Top Winner” in the Community category by the Costa Rican American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham).
In its ninth edition, more than 30 projects from Costa Rican companies were nominated for recognition by AmCham.
Dole’s entry into the award competition focused on its Fair Trade initiative, which has been successfully implemented in five Employee Associations over the past three years, and includes more than 3200 employees from about 54 communities. For every kilo of pineapple and bananas sold in the United States these associations receive an important “fair trade premium” contribution to be used for social development projects in the communities.
In addition to the “Social Responsibility in Action” award, Standard Fruit also was bestowed the Top Winner award in the “Community” category for its Fair Trade certified farms.
