Carrefour launches “Veggie” range

Whilst vegan and vegetarian food is offered the world over (even American fast food chain Taco Bell offers a real vegetarian menu), Carrefour is making up for France’s late arrival in the movement by launching their own “Carrefour Veggie” range. They are offering 8 new products that will be useful staples for vegetarian dishes. The wheat and onion nuggets, for example, can be oven cooked and accompanied with a green salad. In a world where meat has become almost “obligatory” at each meal, vegetable patties or dumplings could easily replace overly consumed steaks or sausages.

With no genetically modified organisms, no meat, no fish and no artificial flavouring, the range was made in direct partnership with the French Vegetarian Association. Consumers will have a choice of chickpea and cocoa bean falafels seasoned with coriander, tomato and basil soy balls which could easily be added to a bolognese sauce, for example. 5 breaded patties will be on offer, such as the spicy Indian tofu patty, the red lentil and dill patty and the buckwheat, bulgur and leek patty.

Prices will range between €2.40 for the 200g of chickpea and coriander falafels, and €3.50 for 4 breaded wheat, spinach and emmental patties.
