Freska Ecuadorian mango program volumes up

Freska Produce International is reporting an expected increase in the volumes of fruit for their Ecuadoran mango program this year. The season, which will start this month, is also expected to feature sizes smaller than last year's program.

Freska will begin shipping mangos next week from the Guayes region, where they source mangos for their Ecuadoran mango program. Next week's shipments will include Tommy Atkins, Ataulfo and Haden mangos, and though volumes will be light to start, total fruit shipped will likely be between 20 percent and 30 percent more than what was shipped during last year's program. Sizes are expected to be smaller than last year's fruit, with expected peak sizes of 10s, 12s and 14s.

The program will continue in December with Kent mangos, and it will end early next year.
