It is well known that the Germans like their sauerkraut. This isn’t surprising, considering the vast expanse of fields covered with white cabbage. Almost all of the crop ends up in the neighbouring sauerkraut factory in Düren-Merzenich. After being processed there, they will head for shelves.
Right now, harvesters are clearing about 4 hectares a day. If the weather allows it, the entire Euenheim field could be clear in a week. Forecast snow isn’t likely to hit the area, so prospects are good in the German sauerkraut industry.
