Germany: Traditional broccoli has sweeter taste

Organic broccoli is not only healthy, but could also be liked by children. Researchers of the university Hohenheim have discovered this. "We have amongst others grown traditional broccoli varieties, which have a somewhat sweet taste" project leader Stefanie Wolf said.

The project group grew organic broccoli varieties and tested the vegetables on taste and content. In addition the students were busy with the further development of a method to establish how healthy broccoli really is. With a special sensor researchers can for instance establish how much cancer preventing matter is in the vegetable.

Wolf now wants to supply the results of the research to the growers. The tasters during the test last Friday, gourmet chef Frank Oehler and five children, were satisfied with the results.
