Besides the tomato, the carrot is Germany’s favourite vegetable. Between June 2011 and May 2012 German consumers purchased an average of 9.2 kg carrots per household, according to website Gabot.de. That comes down to a total of 293,800 tons. The item was mostly bought by people with families.
In this time of the year the carrot does wonders for the immune system. The fact that carrots are harvested until November doesn’t mean consumers have to spend the winter without. The vegetable can be stored for long periods of time now and will make it through the end of the year.
