Edeka-manager expects stable prices for foodstuff

Edeka-manager Markus Mosa does not expect a price increase for foodstuff during the coming period. This as announced by the German newspaper Focus on its website. On the forward markets quotations for separate raw materials decreased further during the past period, as mentioned by Mosa to the newspaper. Also the increasing cost of electricity in the foodstuff trading sector will not be charged to the consumer. "The intensity of the competition will not allow price increases."

About the plans for growth of the Edeka group Mosa said: "We plan to open about 400 new shops each year." Many smaller shops will be closed as they do no longer fit into the present circumstances. "This year the selling area will be extended by more than 200,000 m2" Mosa said.
