US (CA): Smaller crop increase demand for pears

Demand for California-grown pears is growing so fast that growers are now struggling to keep up with shipments.

Ag officials say California growers had a 20-percent smaller pear crop this season. Growers say the smaller fruit volume is making for a strong market.

Farmers are now working extra hard to make sure they ship all the boxes of fruit they have in storage to keep up with demand. Growers say so far they've shipped 95-percent of their crop.
