US: Monsanto closes fiscal year with 2 million dollar profit

American producer and supplier of seeds and pesticides Monsanto has closed 2012's fiscal year with a turnover of 13.15 billion dollars. Compared to the preceding year, this is an increase of over 14%. Profits amounted to 2.05 billion, 27% more than in 2011. The 4th quarter closed with a 229 million dollar loss. Last year this loss was 112 million. The June-August quarterly yielded a turnover of over 2.1 billion, 6% less than in the previous year.

Monsanto managed to realize income by increasing the sales of corn- and soya seeds, and by a sustained technical development in the treatment of seeds. For the coming year, Monsanto is expecting a positive result of 6.55 billion dollars through the sales of seeds and breeding techniques. The Agricultural Productivity division is also expected to contribute 1 billion dollars.
