Commercial Manager
Tambuzi is the leading flower grower and supplier of Scented and Garden Roses for weddings and events in Kenya, committed to sustainable farming practices and exceptional quality. We supply premium flowers to clients across the world, focusing on the Middle East, Europe and the Far East whilst maintaining our B Corp values and environmental commitments.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead our commercial function and drive significant revenue growth. This role combines strategic business development, team leadership, and hands-on market engagement across international markets. You will be responsible for the performance and profitability of our sales operation, whilst building lasting relationships with breeders, suppliers, and clients worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Identify and secure new business opportunities across international markets
- Build and maintain relationships with breeders, suppliers, and key clients globally
- Represent Tambuzi at international flower shows such as the IFTF in the Netherlands, IFTEX in Nairobi and other global events where we network with our existing customers and develop new relationships.
- Conduct regular market intelligence gathering within Nairobi and internationally
Commercial Team Performance
- Monitor and improve sales team performance through data analysis and KPI tracking
- Manage the profit and loss (P&L) of the commercial function
- Develop and track performance against an agreed annual budget and annual growth targets.
- Track and report on weekly sales performance
- Conduct quarterly appraisals for direct reports
- Provide strategic oversight and management of the local sales team in Nanyuki and Nairobi.
Marketing Leadership
- Oversee marketing strategy and performance within allocated budget (2% of turnover)
- Manage marketing KPIs and return on investment
- Organise and host florist visits, masterclasses, and flower safaris
- Support B Corp development initiatives and sustainability communications
- Coordinate event florist partnerships and collaborations
Senior Leadership
- Serve as a member of the senior leadership team with weekly and monthly meetings.
- Report directly to CEO.
- Contribute to strategic planning and company-wide decision making
- To be the duty manager for 1 weekend per month to build general management skills and to fully understand the whole Tambuzi operation
Working Arrangements
This role requires significant flexibility and a passion for international travel. You will be primarily based in Nairobi, maintaining a strong presence in the business community whilst making weekly visits to our farm located just outside of Nanyuki (staying at least one night per week when in the country).
Extensive international travel is a core part of this role, with regular trips of 1-2+ weeks to the Far East, Middle East, and Europe. During these trips, you will visit breeders, attend flower shows, and meet with suppliers and clients, whilst maintaining remote oversight of the Kenya-based team.

Required Qualifications
Essential:
- Proven track record in senior sales leadership roles, ideally within agriculture, horticulture, or FMCG sectors
- Demonstrable experience managing P&L responsibility and delivering revenue growth
- Strong commercial acumen with data-driven decision-making skills
- Experience leading and developing sales teams
- Excellent relationship-building abilities across diverse international markets
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively (approximately 50% of time)
- Valid driving licence for travel between Nairobi and the farm
