Pakistan has granted a one-time exemption from the Financial Instrument requirement for kinnow and potato exports to CIS countries through the Iran land route, clearing the way for the start of the export season. According to an official notification from the Ministry of Commerce, the waiver has been issued under Para 3 of the Export Policy Order 2022 for the current season. A separate mechanism for the repatriation of export proceeds will be announced later.
The notification has been circulated to the Federal Board of Revenue, the State Bank of Pakistan, customs authorities, and Pakistan's trade missions in Moscow, Tehran, Tashkent, Almaty, and Dushanbe. The move allows exporters to dispatch products through the Iran corridor, which they describe as the fastest and most cost-effective route to Central Asia.
Waheed Ahmed, Patron in Chief of the All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association, expressed thanks to government officials and stated that the decision supports the perishable fruit trade. He said, "Our exporters will leave no stone unturned in availing this unique opportunity. With a bumper kinnow crop this year, Pakistan is well positioned to generate valuable foreign exchange from CIS markets."
Exporters expect increased shipment volumes in the coming weeks as the exemption removes the procedural delay that had halted early-season movements. No additional market data or volume projections were included in the announcement.
